The story of Pentecost reassures us that God is never far away. God sends the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us. God is with us, continually working in and through us to revitalize the world. The Holy Spirit calls us to learn and see new things about ourselves and one another; the Spirit renews our hearts, giving joy and passion and purpose. The Spirit invites us to speak out—to declare the goodness of this life we’ve been given, and the goodness of the One who gave it. Second century theologian Irenaeus said, “The glory of God is a human being, fully alive.” Pentecost is an invitation to us all to be fully alive.
