Membership

There’s no rush to become a member. Take your time getting to know us. Take time to listen to your own heart and to God’s call to you.

If you decide at some point that you’d like to become a member here, here’s the outline of what membership means:

  1. Members attend regularly
  2. Members participate in our shared life and purpose
  3. Members contribute to the annual budget by making an annual financial pledge

FAQs

Yikes ! My schedule is crazy. I can’t possibly attend every Sunday! Does that mean I can’t be a member?

Even the priest takes some Sundays off! Members attend faithfully—that means that attending worship is a priority on their schedule. It means that they attend often enough that they get to know other members and that others get to know them. If you only attend on Christmas and/or Easter, you’re not attending often enough to be a member.

What do you mean by participation?

Members are no longer guests, they’re part of the family… so they pitch in in ways that they can. You might read lessons or prayers on a Sunday morning; bring treats for coffee hour; help out with the kids’ program; volunteer to deliver flowers to shut-ins one month; sign up to feed the homeless. There are so many ways to be part of our shared life. Choose a way that matches your interests, abilities, and time constraints.

What’s a financial pledge?

A pledge is just that— a promise. Each Fall we ask our members to tell us how much they commit to giving the church in the next calendar year. This information enables the church to create a sound budget. New members may make a pledge at any time. A pledge is a sign of financial commitment to the Good Shepherd community and to our shared mission and life. The bulk of our budget is made up of annual financial pledges from our members

I used to attend Good Shepherd years ago, but I don’t meet the three criteria. Am I still a member?

While you may be a member of The Episcopal Church broadly, if you do not meet the above criteria, you are likely not an active member of Church of the Good Shepherd. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact the Rector. You may, of course, renew your membership at any time. And, even if you’re not a current member, we are always delighted to see you and have you worship with us!
