Getting to know us…
We hope you’ll take the risk of coming to worship with us on a Sunday morning. It’s not easy to walk into a new place!
In-person worship is the best way to get to know us, and to find out if we are a good fit for you. We do provide online worship, mainly as a helpful service to our regular members who are traveling or homebound. Please be aware that we do NOT invest in a highly produced online worship experience; that’s on purpose. We think that real community happens in real life, in real time, in person.
Sermon recordings are on the website if you want to preview the preaching; you’re welcome to contact us with any questions through the contact form.
Below is a basic outline of what you’ll experience on a Sunday morning:
We have a good-sized parking lot; parking should not be a problem. Most people dress comfortably and business casual. Some people like to dress up; some people prefer to dress down. As you enter the glass doors facing Northshore, an usher will welcome you in and offer you a service leaflet. The leaflet has everything in it that you need to follow along with the service. If you have kids with you, there’s a kids’ check-in table in the lobby and someone there to answer your questions. If you need the nursery, ask an usher or the kids’ table monitor. They will show you the way there.
The service begins at 9am with a welcome from the minister. Then there’s a couple of minutes of quiet before the first hymn. The choir, the children and the minister parade down the aisle to the front as everyone sings the first hymn. The service includes readings, prayers, music, a sermon. (See “how we worship”)
Every Sunday, Communion is offered. Communion is the meal of bread and wine that Jesus offered his disciples before his death. All who are hungry for God are invited to receive bread and wine during Communion. If you don’t want to take bread and wine, that’s totally fine. You might want to receive a blessing instead. Or you can just stay in your seat.
At the end of the service there are a few announcements, a blessing, and a final hymn with a procession out to the lobby. Coffee hour is offered in the lobby. People usually have a cup of coffee and a pastry or two and stand around and chat. You are warmly invited!
It matters to us that you feel welcome. We look forward to meeting you.
Blessings on your journey,
Reverend Jacqueline +
