How you can help

Volunteer Opportunities

Take a look at the volunteer opportunities below. Fill out a form to get connected with one of these opportunities. Please contact the church office if you have any questions.

Volunteer Interest: H.O.P.E. Foundation Feeding Ministry

Good Shepherd is committed to helping those experiencing homelessness and hunger in our community through our involvement with the H.O.P.E Foundation, Inc. (hopefdn.org).  H.O.P.E.’s efforts aim to help restore faith and hope by Helping Others Pursue Excellence

Good Shepherd is supporting our neighbors experiencing homelessness by preparing and serving meals one Sunday a month over the next six months (May – Nov 2023). Volunteers will serve as part of a team, working together to plan and prepare a meal for about 60 recipients; a subset of the team will deliver those meals to 2-3 designated drop-off locations in the community on our appointed Sundays.

Our parish is committed to serving meals to approximately 60 of our neighbors on the following Sunday afternoons in 2023: 14 May, 11 June, 9 July, 13 August, 10 September, 15 October, 5 November.

Each session will be led by an Outreach Committee member who will be present throughout the day to delegate and direct volunteers through the process. Grab a friend and join us in making a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors.

Interested volunteers should next consider the type of volunteer experience you are interested in, considering number of hours per month you are available to volunteer. There are varying opportunities, some of which require a consistent commitment, others requiring less consistency and more of an “as needed” basis.

Here are the position descriptions:

Lunch Buddy: Requires a commitment to visit one particular student during lunch, every week or every other week, for approximately 45 minutes to an hour. You can choose a day of the week that works best for you. Initial visit will be a required shadowing of a current Lunch Buddy and introduction to Gary Sigler, the school's guidance counselor, who oversees the Lunch Buddy program.

Classroom Helper/Assistant: Requires a level of commitment to either a particular teacher or a particular student, visiting on a regular basis, based on the teacher or student need.

Stand-alone volunteer Opportunities: One-time projects or events in which one or several volunteers might be needed. Examples include: reading to a group of children, helping with Math & Reading Family Night, delivering snacks or coffee/breakfast items for staff and faculty, assembling bulletin boards, helping with Field Day, assisting on a field trip, judging the school Science Fair.
