Wind. Breath. Spirit. There is a side to God that is wild and unpredictable, a side to God that is always beyond the predictable routines and rules we call religion. Every year at Pentecost, we remind ourselves that God is a creative Creator. God’s goal is not to keep things the same; it’s to renew Creation, to renew each of us. As human beings, we can get stuck in our ways, trapped in our own patterns and fears and understandings. Then a fresh way of seeing and doing things blows in, and we change. Our lives change. Our hearts change. God is not a dusty old relic. God is a breath of fresh air, filling us with hope and new ways of living.
