New Window Display Entitled “The Rhythm of Life”

Sep 10, 2025

This year’s Creation windows were collaborative every step of the way. Using the Evangelism Grant monies Good Shepherd was awarded by the national Episcopal Church, the window project, themed “The Rhythm of Life,” drew in published poets, NSU drummers, church members and neighbors and friends of all ages. Three workshops fed into the final product: a poetry workshop led by published poets Angier Brock, Emily Pease and Beth Williams; an open drumming circle led by NSU percussion professor Ricky Micou; and an innovative art event led by Ben Blanchard. At the poetry workshop participants used the “exquisite corpse” method to construct group poems. The resulting poems, in turn, inspired a spoken-word style drumming soundtrack. Using bits and pieces of the natural world—flowers, twigs, bark, pine needles, moss, and more—art workshop participants created vibrant images inspired by a line from one of the created poems. Poetry, art, and sound combine to full effect in the window installation. Drive by at night, when the window is lit for maximum effect, or walk up to take a closer look and to experience the accompanying soundtrack. Don’t miss the accompanying video, which is available through a QR code on the window and through the link below. The “Rhythm of Life” adventure is not over yet! A poetry contest on the theme is going on now. See the Good Shepherd website (goodshepherdnorfolk.org) for submission details.
