*POETRY OPEN MIC*

We look forward to seeing you this gorgeous Sunday morning at 9am for our weekly church service! Since we are on the brink of the official start of summer, be sure to add our upcoming FOOD FOR BODY + SOUL Open Mic Series event to your calendar for later this month! Our outdoor summer series returns this year, kicking off with the POETRY Open Mic night, Tuesday, June 28th from 7-8:30pm. The event will take place in the Shirland Lot, our church's lovely outdoor space that is nestled up beside the Larchmont neighborhood here in Norfolk.

All are welcome, so be sure to join us whether you're an amateur with alliteration, or an iambic pentameter pro! All guests are encouraged to bring food, drinks and a chair to enjoy the event.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."

Last Sunday marked the observation of the Day of Pentecost in the lectionary calendar, and the start of the Pentecost season, an "ordinary time" that lasts through mid-November.
According to the Episcopal Church, the term "Pentecost" is "used in the New Testament to refer to the coming of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1), shortly after Jesus' death, resurrection, and ascension. Christians came to understand the meaning of Pentecost in terms of the gift of the Spirit. The Pentecost event was the fulfillment of a promise which Jesus gave concerning the return of the Holy Spirit."
We enjoyed celebrating last Sunday with our handmade displays of paper doves, wearing the liturgical color of red, and welcoming our guest Celebrant the Rev. James Harlan, Diocesan Canon for Evangelism.
