SUMMARY:Prayer without Words
DESCRIPTION:Meeting Wednesday mornings in the Well. \nA form of mental prayer in which meditation and petition give way to quiet adoration of the mysteries of God. Contemplation is the fruit of divine grace. It comes after a period of recollection and self-abandonment. Daily concerns vanish and exclusive attention is given to the mysteries of the Trinity\, the Incarnation\, and Redemption. Active imagination gives way to waiting and listening. God is sought and found within the self as divine dwelling-place. The contemplative way may lead through phases of spiritual dryness\, often called “nights.” Its summit is conscious participation in the very life of God\, metaphorically called the state of “spiritual marriage.” Forms of contemplation are found in all great religions. It is described in the Upanishads and by the sûfîs of Islam. The experience of contemplation does not guarantee the orthodoxy of its expression. Yet the great Christian contemplatives remain within the parameters of faith as their experience rests upon the mediation of Christ and is nurtured by the gifts of the Spirit. While contemplation is not experienced by all believers\, it may be desired by all\, and such a desire is already God’s grace.

DESCRIPTION:HOPE meals are back! Every year from May through November we partner with HOPE Foundation to help feed those experiencing homelessness in Norfolk. Now is the time to check your calendar and sign up to help! Each team makes a meal here in our Good Shepherd kitchen\, packages the food up for transport\, and then a subset of the team delivers meals to 1-3 locations in Norfolk. Each meal is organized and led by a member of the Outreach Committee or a staff member. Got questions? Call or email the church office. The delivery time will be at 4pm. SUMMARY:Rhythm of Life: Art
DESCRIPTION:This year’s series will offer multiple forms of adventure and a chance to help create our end-of-summer “Creation” window installation. The theme of the summer series is The Rhythm of Life. \nThe series begins on June 10 event with a poetry workshop. Led by three local published poets–Angier Brock\, Emily Pease\, and Beth Williams–this workshop is open to all. No previous experience necessary\, just a love for words and for life. By the end of the workshop\, participants will have created one or more collaborative poems\, which will be featured in the window display and will drive the creative process for the next two events. \nIn July\, we are joined by the talented Ricky Micou\, a professor of percussion at NSU. His travels around the world during his time in the Navy inform his open\, energetic spirit and his love of teaching. If you can bang your hand on the table\, you can make a rhythm! The July event will culminate in a collaborative group recording that will be edited into a soundtrack for the window. \nAugust means art! Creative guru Ben Blanchard will bring us together to construct the art for the window. Wherever Ben is\, fun and discovery are not far behind… \nWe are all part of The Rhythm of Life. Bring your heart and spirit and imagination to Good Shepherd this summer and be part of this year’s Food for Body & Soul series. We look forward to seeing you there.
