Dear Friends and Members of the Church of the Good Shepherd,
Our parish has its hands full. We have a deep devotion to outreach, forming links with people and Churches far and near. We have foreign commitments to Belize, Haiti, and Malawi. We have commitments to our local area particularly with the Mission of the Holy Spirit and a variety of local programs. We also are in the fellowship of our own Diocese. We have much work to do on the parish level. We are just beginning a long range planning process in which we call for a recommitment from everyone to work, pray, give, and grow for the spread of God’s Kingdom. Included in that will be our struggles with supporting our parish, its structures, staff and programs so we can continue in all our ministries.
Deeply ingrained in our parish ministry is the Vestry’s statement of “What We Practice as Members of Good Shepherd.
- Service in our ministries (Work)
- Active participation in public worship (Pray)
- Promise of financial support to our Parish (Give)
- Involvement in some form of spiritual growth and renewal (Grow)
During a recent parish trip to Africa, I was much impressed with the leadership of the Vestry of St. Matthew’s Church Embangweni, Malawi. Adrian, Lottie, Zwengie, and Blandina are exemplary Church leaders on any continent and for any parish. We have similar leaders here with Sue, David, Diana, Frank, Woody, Sue, Tom, Bob, Rachel, Mary, Pat, and Taylor, not to forget Connie and Lang.
My hope is that in the not too distant future we all join with the Vestry to ponder anew not only what the Almighty can do, but also what we might do and be. How might we Work, Pray, Give and Grow for the spread of God’s Kingdom right here at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
Please make every effort to join us for one of the Long Range Planning Sessions to ponder the Dream of God for this wonderful parish.
Faithfully,
Robert
